Why I keep my house clean..

I make my bed every single morning, yes every morning including weekends. It just looks better (obliviously) when you walk in the room instead of a pile of sheets, a comforter & pillows thrown around or in a pile on the floor. Plus my master opens up into my living room, we keep all of the bedrooms doors open during the day so it gets viewed quite often.

We always have people coming & going from my house between therapists & family members, it's refreshing for me & them (I'm sure) to walk into a clean, organized home, they can come in & get started on the session right away or it's nice to visit with family without them being distracted by dirty dishes or toys everywhere.

We spend most of our time in the kitchen & living room which open up to each other but are separated by a huge island. So these are my main area's of focus, these areas are always clear & clean.

My kitchen, counter-tops & the big island are free of clutter & are wiped down several times a day since they get used the most by everyone.  It doesn't take long or much effort to keep them this way.

My children play better when things are picked up & put away, both of my kids have no problem dragging toy after toy out to play. However, they know that when it's time to clean up, everything has a proper place, wether it's a bookshelf, bin, etc.

Getting your children involved around the house isn't hard & most of the time they enjoy doing it, Little Sister C loves helping take her laundry bin from her closet when it's full & placing it in-front of the washer in the laundry room. Kids love structure & routine, it also teaches responsibility, so I highly encourage you to introduce simple cleaning routines to them when they are younger, trust me, you'll thank me later!

Having a clean & organized home saves me money as well, I don't spend extra money at the store replacing something I lost or can't find, nor do I have hours to search for it. I know where everything is & how much of something I have, like I only have 1 bottle of windex, it's in the cleaning cabinet in the laundry room above the washer. So when I run out of windex, I know there's not another bottle lying around somewhere, etc & i'm not buying 6 bottles at the store because I can't find the 1 I bought last week.

Keeping a clean home is my job, yes as a single, part time working Mom, I'm the only one here to rotate the laundry, steam mop the floors & do the dishes. My children count on me & that's part of what keeps me going. I get more done when my house is clean, I'm happier, my children are happier & that's it.

I'm not saying my house is perfect or my life & it will never be, nor am I striving for that. However, I've learned over the years that it indeed does make life easier & less stressful.

How does your home look? Does the clutter bother you or are you a neat freak like me? Do you find struggles with the kids?

I struggle keeping my house clean and I don't even have kids. :) I am trying to focus on just cleaning for a few minutes a day -- even setting aside that time makes a big difference!

I have been decluttering this year and it is making a huge difference (of course, my kiddo is in college now). I know that a few minutes spent each morning and evening taking care of chores (like making the beds in the am and making sure the kitchen is clean in the pm) make ALL the difference !

I can not stand having tons of clutter, but I have to say that I hide the clutter in one room. I need to organize it and give some items away that I do not need. I think it is great how you keep a clean home. I am always dusting and cleaning the house. But I do have to say that I do not always make my bed!

Having a clean and clutter-free home is a great way to know where everything is. I wish my home was like that, but I just don't have the energy to police the husband and his clutter LOL. He can never find stuff though and it is annoying.

I try to keep the my house picked up,dishes washed, beds made, bathrooms clean and I get to the bigger stuff when I can. I like the feeling that someone could come over and I would not have to hide behind the door.

My house is small, which means it gets messy quickly. We try to clean up about two times a day- once around lunch time and once after dinner. But we usually have a cluttered counter top. :-)

"My children play better when things are picked up & put away..." I am really noticing this too, as we make a concerted effort to get new routines going for picking up toys and putting them away.
