Did y'all see my post across social media about how proud I am of this big guy? What a long journey this has been and it's not over yet but this is what we've been working on for the past few months!
In January when Big Brother C started at his new school his teacher and I sat down and revamped his IEP and all his goals. I expressed that I really wanted to focus on tackling independence this year with him. One of our huge goals for this year was toilet training, I wanted him to be able to use the toilet independently.
As most of you are aware Big Brother C is non-verbal but also struggles with major sensory issues, but he is one super smart kid! His teacher and staff were on board and ready to take on the task of toilet training at full speed. For the last two months he has been hard core toilet training, with the help of Proloquo2Go, video modeling and lots of positive reinforcements - he is 99% toilet trained!
My momma heart has been overflowing with emotions because as a special needs parent I wasn't sure if this day would ever come. I feel like we've been toilet training for the last nine years and have probably spent thousands of dollars on pull ups in that time frame.
This milestone is huge for Big Brother C, while I'm sure we will still have an occasional accident, I could not be more proud of him. I can not wait to see what else he conquers this year! I was so nervous about Intermediate School for him and pre-teen years but his teachers and staff work so hard and are so in love with him, they are constantly raving about what a joy he is to have in class and at school.
I love this sweet boy of mine with all of my heart and I'm so proud to call him my son!
If your toilet training, don't get discouraged and don't give up, it will happen! Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but when the time is right you'll know!
